Welcome to the Current Middle Ages! The East Kingdom is a part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA), a not-for-profit educational organization which studies the Middle Ages by recreating the pastimes and crafts of the period. International in scope, our activities include tournaments, festivals, classes, feasts, and all manner of arts and sciences you would find in the culture of pre-1600s western Europe.

The SCA is participatory. There are no spectators, and every person plays a part in the creating the atmosphere. For some, this means making an attempt at the proper clothing (we'll help you get started). For others, it means learning calligraphy, fencing, dancing, or whatever activities pique your interest.

We hold "events" (what we call our gatherings) nearly every weekend. Some feature tournaments and feasts, while others specialize in learning more about particular crafts. The summer months often feature full weekends of activities concentrated around a camping event, often ending with bardic revelry around campfire.

Come join us!

A word from the Webminister Thank you for visiting the East Kingdom web site!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people who over the years have made this office run as smooth as possible. I would especially like to thank Máistreás Shannon for her assistance with the graphics and event calendar and Baroness Gavlinne for the new site design.

A reminder that Web Minister Reports are due in January 1. For annual reports, I simply need you to check in with current proof of membership and, optionally, any suggestions or commentary you might have.

A word about copyright:

Every article and every graphic on these web pages is considered an intellectual property and protected by the same copyright laws that apply to print publications. Unless specifically stated otherwise, the artists and authors have given permission for this web site only to use their works, not every web site or publication in the East Kingdom.

Please respect their work, and always ask for permission. To do otherwise is not only discourteous, it's illegal.

If you'd like to use any graphic from the site or reprint an article, e-mail me at webmaster@eastkingdom.org. I will then put you in touch with the author or artist to work out the details. In general, most authors and artist will give permission, provided that proper credit is given. If you're not sure, e-mail me.

Graphics for use:

Master Robin was gracious enough to provide a page with officer badges and other web graphics he created that he has given blanket permission to use on SCA web pages provided you give him the following credit: "The officer badge images are Copyright © 1999-2001 by David L. Weiner. Used with permission". You can substitute any reasonable description of the graphics you are using for "officer badge". It is also acceptable to place the credit in the "alt" tag in your "<img src>" statement. You'll find these graphics at the web graphics page.  If you would like to use those graphics in print, please e-mail me, and I can send you high resolution versions that are suitable for printing.  You will find that the print quality of graphics intended for the web is not as good as it could be.
