“THE END OF THE WORLD!”
The apocalypse is nothing new as far as history goes, and the Middle Ages had plenty of moments in which many people believed the end was nigh. The theme of this contest is to research and create an entry pertaining to the dark side of pre-17th Century life, be it something about the world ending, or other macabre aspects of the medieval and ancient periods worldwide. Don’t feel limited to Europe, in light of the theme, entries from Mezo-American cultures will be extremely welcome and encouraged. In that respect, so will Asiatic and African cultures as well as long as the research is pre 17th century. This is a chance to branch out and learn something new and exciting in a culture you may not know a lot about. Some inspirations to draw from, other than the obvious Mayan calendar, could be a German Totentanz block book from the 15th Century, or an Egyptian Book of the Dead papyri.
There is no limit as to what type of art or science display can be entered, other than that it fits the theme to be considered for the championship, so this is a great time to really think outside of the box. Brewing, sewing, beading, scribal, woodworking, cooking, etc. All are welcome. Only one entry per person, please. Documentation should accompany your entry, but please no more than 2 pages typed as to allow for adequate time for fair judging. Those that do not wish to enter the championship but would still like to add to the display may do so in a non-competitive manner, and may mark their display as such. As per baronial rules, entrants need not live within Bridge, but MUST be in attendance of the duties of a champion of the Barony should they win.
Any questions, comments, or concerns may be directed to the outgoing champion and event autocrat Lady Anna Dauzzano da Siracusa, at kaousuu (at) gmail.com or 401-808-5453.
