|As winter turns to spring, nature awakens once again. Their Excellencies, Erec and Jehannine, Baron and Baroness of Settmour Swamp, invite the known world to their annual celebration of the thawing of the mud.|
Please join us on March 22 at the Salaam Shrine in Livingston, NJ as we gather to enjoy much that our society has to offer. There will be tournaments of martial skill in armored combat, rapier fencing, thrown weapons, and youth fighting. There will be a grand arts and sciences competition and artist's village. There will be a baking competition and a brewing competition. There will be shopping with some of the finest merchants from around the known world. And to cap off the day, we will have a wonderful feast.
The armored combat tournament will be fought in the traditional Mudthaw double elimination format. The tournament will begin promptly at noon. There will be tournaments for rapier combat, thrown weapons, and youth fighting. The fencing tournament will begin at 12:00 PM. Thrown weapons will begin at 12:00 PM. Youth combat will begin at 12:30 PM.
For those more inclined to the Arts and Sciences, we will be hosting an artisans row for people to share their knowledge, and a competition to show off your finished product.
Mudthaw Arts and Sciences Competition:
This Competition is open to any and all who would enter, a separate table will be set for a Youth Competition. There will be a Competition Winner as well as a Populace Winner. The site opens at 10:00 am, judging will begin at 1:00.
1 - All entries must have been created within the past 2 years.
2 - All culinary entries must include a full ingredient lists. Modern sanitary considerations must be taken in their preparation. Entrants are responsible for keeping cold food cold and hot food hot.
3 - Research Papers need to be sent in before Mudthaw for proper review. Please also have a print out for presentation amongst the other entrants. Send Research/Paper entries to Caterina Giaocchini at firstname.lastname@example.org by March1, 2014 to ensure enough time for review.
Entries will be judged as follows -
Workmanship - construction, attention to detail, presentation.
Creativity - originality, interpretation.
Complexity - intensity of the design, difficulty, research and scope
Authenticity - historical accuracy or interpretation.
Documentation - thoroughness, sources listed, ideas demonstrated. While not necessary for this competition, more points will come from having documentation.
There will be an A&S Display space laid out for those not wishing to enter the competition but still desiring to display.

April Fool's Scribal Contest:
There will be a Scribal Contest displayed at Mudthaw, the details for which are listed here http://signet.eastkingdom.org/wp/2014/02/11/april-fools-scribal-contest/ .
These entries will be judged, and winners will be announced on April 1, 2014 (A populace choice winner will be selected at Mudthaw). Criteria will include humor, creativity, and overall presentation. You don’t need to be a scribe in the East Kingdom College of Scribes to participate – all who can pick up a brush and a pencil are welcome to join in this challenge, and create a wonderful conversation piece you’d be proud to hang in your own home. Entries submitted for display at KWHSS will be available for pickup at specific East Kingdom events afterward, so don’t forget to include your contact information on the back!

The East Kingdom Brewers Guild announcement:
Good gentles one and all. I Friar William Graham Southern Region Deputy of the East Kingdom Brewers Guild do announce many brewing opportunities at Mud Thaw this year. First we will have a brewing contest to see who will be the brewing champion. Make sure you at least provide the name of your product and what the ingredients are for some points in the area of documentation. Documentation can give you just enough points to win the contest. Also we are having a panel opportunity for those of you who are interested in becoming members of the East Kingdom Brewers Guild. Documentation and Medieval Authenticity are very important for ranking in the Guild. Please check out our requirements and paneling sheet at:

For there are only a few spots available. I hope to meet some new brewers so we can all share in recipes, techniques and fellowship. The brewing community is amazing and I hope you will become a part of it.
While man cannot live on beer alone, we will be holding the now annual Mudthaw bread baking competition. Please include a full ingredient list for all entries and documentation. Judges will give preference to those entries which could have been made in period.

Ipocras: White grape juice with ginger, cinnamon and cloves
Eyerwafelen: Thin wafers made from eggs, flour and cardamom served with cream

From the Garden State Parkway: Take exit 145 to Route 280 WEST. Go 4.3 miles to exit 7 for Pleasant Valley Way toward Millburn/Verona. Bear left at end of ramp (toward Millburn), turn left at Pleasant Valley Way SOUTH and go 0.4 miles to junction of Route 10/Mount Pleasant Ave. Turn right onto Route 10/Mount Pleasant Ave. WEST. The site is 1.2 miles down the road on the right.
From Route 287: Take exit 41A for I-80 E toward New York City. After 2.6 mi take exit 47A to I-280 East toward The Oranges/Newark. After 6 miles, take exit 6 for Laurel Avenue & Turn right onto Laurel Ave. After ~1/3 mile bear left onto Shrewsbury Dr. After a 1/2 mile, turn left onto Mt Pleasant Avenue. After 0.4 miles, the Salaam Shrine is on your left.
Public Transportation: N.J. Transit has Bus service from Newark Penn Station that travels along Route 10 in Livingston and can stop near the site. Consultwww.njtransit.com for updated information on service and schedules.
