Coronation of TRH Kelson and Geneviere

The Barony of Settmour Swamp invites one and all to join us as we host the Coronation of Their Royal Highnesses, Gaufred Kelson von Heidelberg and Geneviere d’Alsace!  Imagine yourselves traveling to the city of Aachen in the 14th century, where since the days of Charlemagne the Kings of Germany were crowned, as you come to celebrate this festive occasion.

The Last Court of Their Royal Majesties Balfar and Luna will begin promptly by noon, following which there will be numerous activities for the enjoyment of the populace while the newly crowned Monarchs Sit-In-State to accept fealties.  Planned activities to celebrate the Coronation include fighting, fencing, archery, youth combat, gaming, and an A&S competition.

By royal request, the fighting tournament will be themed come-as-your-favorite-hero, where the combatants will fight under a historical or mythological pseudonym of their choice, as deemed acceptable to the Crown.  The tourney will be a single elimination ‘Highlander’ format – only 2 handed weapons or weapon&buckler (bucklers will be provided if needed), and only cutting blows to the head count as victories; all other blows are wounds that heal after a spoken count of 10 seconds.  Best challenges and best deaths will be recognized, so prepare your best theatrics!  For those who are eliminated or not up to the challenge of the tourney, there will be a bear pit as well.

The A&S competition will be open category, with arts of the 14th century especially encouraged, and an overall winner will be chosen by a pool of judges comprised of local artisans.  A hearty dayboard will be served and there will be merchants offering their wares.

After the day’s revelries, our new King and Queen will hold Their First Royal Court, which will be followed by a sumptuous feast of German and French cuisine.  Afterwards, a lively program of dancing and music and a delectable dessert sideboard will be offered in the upper hall to complete the day’s celebration.

The site for this event will be the Salaam Shriner Center, conveniently located on Route 10 in Livingston, NJ, which features two large main halls, ample parking, and a spacious field for martial activities.  The site will open at 9am and close at 11:30pm.  As is our preference here in the Swamp, the site is damp, however, we do ask you to be discreet.
