Lost Tip Archers Gathering **UPDATED**
(At-a-Glance Event Information)
Friday, September 17th, 2010 to Sunday, September 19th, 2010
Hosted by Shire of Panther Vale - Randolph, VT
Event Last Modified: August 15th, 2010
It is (again) the year 1468 and the Yorkist Earl of Pembroke, William Herbert born Gwilym ap Gwilym, has been sent by Edward IV to take Harlech Castle, a stronghold in northern Wales being held by the Welsh constable Dafydd ap Jevan for the Lancastrians. In preparation for the assault, His Grace the Earl has ordered all of his Archers and other Fighters and their entourages to gather at Goodrich Castle five days before the autumnal equinox on the Feast Day of St. Hygbald for tests of readiness for battle.
The day will offer a variety of tests in archery and other methods of fighting, including Royal Rounds, a clout shoot, roving in His Grace's new roving field, a flight shoot, and for those who are interested, permission has been given for all archers at the gathering to hunt His Grace's game in His Forest and His birds in His Fields, while for those desiring additional training for shooting a bow in combat, there will be time set aside to practice Combat Archery.
In addition to Archery, there will be training and competition in axe, spear, and knife throwing as well as in fighting with the new lightweight sword, the rapier.
Children who wish to partake of these activities may do so, provided a parent or guardian is present.
His Grace will provide two large pots of hot vittles when the sun is highest in the sky. To that end, His Grace has ordered his stewards to prepare two fine stews (one with meat and the other without), breads, cheeses, and fruit in season as well as suitable drinks.
A primitive camp will be established late on the day before the Gathering and will disband the morning after the Gathering. And for those not able to camp, a few of the local castles have offered accommodations (“crash space”) as space allows. Any one may request camping or “castle” accommodations for themselves and their families by going to the Lost Tip web page listed below and clicking on “Lost Tip Accommodations” about half way down the page.
Please bring a camp chair - we will provide tables!
The gathering will be held in the usual autumn sunshine of Vermont (bright and/or liquid).
Parking right on the site is somewhat limited, so carpooling is suggested - cuts down on travel costs as well. There is ample parking within walking distance.
