Event details

Oye, Oye!!  Their Excellencies, Baron Declan Gobha and Baroness Aibhilin inghean Ui Phaidin, have declared that they will continue the tradition of inviting all good gentles to the Barony's annual May Day in order to try something new and help select the new Baronial Rattan and Rapier Champions.  And once again, to ease the financial burden on those interested in attending, they have proclaimed that there will be neither a site fee nor a charge for the dayboard.

A variety of Arts & Sciences and Martial activities, with teachers, materials, and loaner gear, will be available for folks to try out.  The A&S activities will include glass bead-making, calligraphy & illumination, dancing, woodworking, metal casting, weaving, and more, while the martial activities will encompass heavy fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons, and combat archery.  If you are an artisan who would like to demonstrate and teach as part of this special day, please contact the A&S Coordinator, Baroness Drueta de la Rosa (see below).

The excitement of the day will be further expanded by the Barony's Rapier and Rattan Tournaments being held to decide the next Baronial Champions.  The champions must live in Iron Bog or a landed group that touches its borders (i.e.  Bhakail, Carillion, Barren Sands, Caer Adamant, and Buckland Cross).  If you do not reside in one of these groups, you can still enter the tournament and make sure the new champion deserves the honor.  The fencing tourney will be a slippery slope format, while the heavy tourney will start out with rounds of grand melee to determine the top four, then best of three passes to determine the finalists, then best of either three or five passes to determine the champion.

Children will be welcome to participate in many of the activities with parental supervision and approval of those sharing their skills.  There will also be an area set-up for families to gather and play.  The site offers a wonderful playground for use with parental supervision.  For questions regarding youth participation please contact the Chancellor of Youth, Lady Fiadhnait inghean Chiaragain.

For those who are new to the Society, there will be loaner garb available if needed.  If possible, please contact the Baronial Chatelaine (see below) in advance with your needs so that an appropriate outfit can be put together for you.  Additional loaner garb will be available at the event.
