Queen & Crown's Arts & Sciences Championship, 2020
Preliminary Announcement (updated 9/10/19)

Entrants may enter a single substantial item or a body of work consisting of related items that are connected to each other in a significant and meaningful way, and whose methods, materials, and social significance can be dated to before 1600.  A body of work will be judged as a single “item,” individual entries will not be scored.  Items can be from a single discipline or from multiple disciplines.  In either case, entries should seek tell a coherent and cohesive story about a historic people, time, place, etc.

No item should have won a previous Crown’s Championship, and each item to be judged should have been completed within three years of the competition.  Entries may have been entered into (and even won) local/regional A&S competitions.  Absentee entries will not be accepted.

Those considering entering are also advised that this is a high level competition where the focus is on picking the kingdom arts and sciences champions.  The judging is rigorous, and entrants are expected to be familiar with the kingdom A&S rubrics which will be updated prior to the competition and used to assess entries.

Documentation will once again be due in advance of the competition to allow judges more time to review each entrants work.

On the day of the competition, Entrants will go through an initial round of judging, and then the top scoring entrants will be asked to present to the Crown in a final round of judging to explain why they are interested in being champion, and how they plan to work to further A&S in the kingdom should they win.The duties of the champions include representing the Crown at events, participating in the Pennsic A&S War Point, and assisting the MoAS office with next year's A&S champions event..

If any entrant has an idea they are not sure will fit the competition format, PLEASE e-mail the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences, Mistress Elysabeth Underhill (moas@eastkingdom.org) and she will be most happy to chat with you on a case by case basis to try and discover the best way to present your work.

There will be an opportunity for the youth of our kingdom to display their A&S projects (details forthcoming) and an A&S Consultation table will be available to offer advice and feedback to newer artisans, or to those not entering the competition.

Details about registration, deadlines, and other important and helpful information will be forthcoming and posted on the MoAS website when available https://moas.eastkingdom.org
